About

Sharon Boehlefeld, features and multimedia editor of The Observer, is the coordinator of The Observer Book Club and of the Observer Book Club blog. She helped lead a readers' book club at The Journal-Standard in Freeport for several years and belongs to a few real-life book clubs in Rockford and Freeport.

The Observer Book Club began during the Year of Faith, declared by Pope Benedict XVI.
We launched the One Diocese, One Book program in October 2014 with Abbie Reese's "Dedicated to God: An Oral History of Cloistered Nuns," which is about the Poor Clares who live in Rockford. We followed that up with John Thavis' "The Vatican Diaries," leaading up to his November 2015 on the occasion of The Observer's 80th anniversary. We're always looking for suggestions for other books the whole diocese might like to read.

We also bring you extended book reviews from Catholic News Service, which don't often fit in the paper, and information about book and media events in the Rockford Diocese. (Send us your parish or school book events so we can include them.)
